The themes of liberation are prevalent in "Freedom in Flight”. The nurturing figure protects herself and her nest from the dangers surrounding her. The coiled snakes are the dangers, distractions, and false flags that affect our clarity from the chipping away at our rights and freedoms. We all have issues that we care deeply about, yet we often feel disempowered in our ability to make change. The figure’s strength lies in her calm fortitude and defiance to those distracting forces.

All of the flowers in the painting are either incredibly rare or in danger of decline. The use of these flowers alludes to our own rareness and fragility, as well as our tenacious adaptability to survive.

"Freedom in Flight” is from the series, “Untangling Our Roots”, which explores the evolution from childhood beliefs and cultural influences to developing a unique path and voice as an adult. Each painting in the series addresses a different universal struggle and is infused with a solitary figure, enigmatic nature as a healing and guiding force, and/or spiritual and cultural symbolism. This series strives to embody mystery, beauty, exploration, and discovery.
